Say Thanks More - The Movement

Friends, I am (well WE are) starting a movement. A good vibe spreading, positive influencing, gratitude listing MOVEMENT. Here’s the deal:

I’ve been posting gratitude lists on Instagram for a few months now and journaling gratitudes every night for the last 3 years. Gratitude has a huge impact on my life in all the best ways. The more grateful I am or try to be, the more good energy I have about situations I like and dislike. Overall, I have more happy vibes to share rather than complaints.

The gratitude thing really started way back in my high school years. My mom gave each of us a journal for Christmas with an individualized message inside the front cover (thank you so much mom - I love you). It outlined the importance of being grateful to spread kindness and love to the world. Since then I’ve known that gratitude is a fundamental piece for your emotional, physical, mental, and social well-being. Even if it took me a little while to consistently put it into practice. And even now, I’m not perfect with it. I might forget to write them right before bed and do it in the morning, or I might write 5 instead of 10 because it’s late and I have to get to bed. But I do it in some capacity because I know the power of it.

Sometimes when I write my daily gratitudes, I feel a little bit silly writing that I’m grateful for things like hugs, or my cup of coffee but even those things shouldn’t be taken for granted. And when I get into the deeper things like I’m grateful that I had that talk with my mom to work out an argument, or that I got to laugh with my colleagues at work, it really does make my heart smile so big. My emotions go straight back to those moments in the day or life and I feel like I get to experience them all over again.

NOW FOR THE GREAT STUFF...

Last week, while I was in La Jolla, I got a notification from instagram that I was tagged in one of my closest friend’s posts. My sweet friend, Malari, posted her own gratitude list inspired by my previous posts. I was so excited and moved to see one of my closest friends and followers sharing this goodness with others. I definitely cried and then ran out of the bedroom and threw my phone in Marc’s face. He was deep into mixing a song and was confused to see me out of control excited. He was forced to look at my phone that was blocking his computer as I held it there but once he read it, he realized why I was so excited. He smiled and said “look at you spreading the gratitudes” (or something like that - I can’t quite remember). Marc is also a big believer in daily gratitudes and we celebrated this moment together as we talked about how great it was to see someone taking this practice on and sharing it with her own following.

As the day went on, I began to think of how grateful I was to see one person taking on these gratitude lists and as I enjoyed that feeling, the wheels in my head continued to turn. I began to think about the impact it could have if EVERYONE did this.

That’s when I came up with the idea to create a way for us all to share and make connections via our gratitude lists. So, here’s where you come in… yes YOU, my dear reader and friend. If you’re into competition, consider this a challenge.

Here’s How….

Step 1: On instagram post a list of 3-4 things that you are grateful for in the caption of your next photo.

Step 2: Be sure to use the hashtags: #saythanksmore & #saythanksmovement so we have a common place to share these.

Step 3: Tag me (my handle is @thanksmorris) so that we can celebrate together and I can give you a huge hug across the insta universe.

Step 4: Do this once, twice, three times or as much as you like. Gratitude is NEVER over-shared.

Also, I encourage you to leave me something you’re grateful for in the comments on this post. There’s really no time like the present!

Thank you for reading, friends. I’m so excited for this movement and I know we are about to do good things!
